Colorado City sits close enough to Greenhorn Mountain that homes see more moisture than the rest of the territory — and its mid-century tract homes weren’t built with that in mind.
Older homes near Greenhorn Mountain catch more snowmelt and humidity than the plains around Pueblo, and that's part of why mold remediation in Colorado City, CO often looks different from a job in town.
Colorado City’s housing stock is largely mid-century tract homes from the subdivision’s original development, and its position near Greenhorn Mountain and the foothills means more snowmelt and higher ambient humidity than the high plains around Pueblo proper. Older construction combined with more moisture in the ground and the air is exactly the combination that lets mold get established — often in a basement or crawl space long before anyone notices a smell upstairs.

“Pure Maintenance was amazing! Jim and Karen were professional, explained everything clearly, and took care of our mold problem quickly. We highly recommend - FIVE STARS isn’t enough for the care, honesty, and thorough work Karen and Jim gave us!”
“After being quoted large amounts by different agencies inside and outside pueblo, I found pure maintenance. Not only are their prices affordable, there are also thorough. Their inspection was much more thorough than I had expected, and their air tests were sent to Labs with all the required certificates/accreditations needed to test for mold. They were kind, very flexible, and extremely responsive. I would recommend their services to anyone. During the inspection, they found severe issues in the Attic that were contributing to mold issues. The mold test showed what I have suspected, which caused for me to move out of the house and break the lease with no consequences, due to the mold report and inspection/air tests. In addition to all of that, they also took the time to be flexible in sanitizing the items that I had moved into the house to ensure that there was no mold growth in my new place or my storage unit. They were extremely flexible on the time they could come to do it, the price, and just in general (because I am almost always behind a little bit).”
Spring snowmelt runoff from the foothills is the trigger to watch for — a basement that stays damp for weeks after the thaw, condensation forming on older single-pane basement windows, or discoloration spreading across aging drywall or wood paneling typical of mid-century construction. A musty smell that gets noticeably worse after a wet spring, or a crawl space that never fully dries out between rains, both point to a moisture problem that’s already fed mold growth.
We start with an inspection of the basement or crawl space and the moisture pathways specific to a mid-century foundation — older sump areas, foundation cracks, and window wells that catch runoff from the mountain-adjacent grade. Pure Maintenance’s patented VaPURE vapor then treats mold on surfaces and in the air throughout the space, reaching original 1960s–70s wall assemblies and framing through existing gaps rather than opening them up. A protective antimicrobial coating follows, and independent post-treatment lab testing confirms the result before we call the job finished.
Cost depends on the square footage affected and how accessible the older construction is to treat. Because VaPURE reaches mid-century wall cavities and framing without needing them opened up, it typically costs less than the extensive access work older remediation methods require on a home this age. We provide a clear estimate before any work begins.
We know how Colorado City’s proximity to Greenhorn Mountain changes the moisture picture, and how that plays out differently in a 1960s or 70s tract home than in newer construction elsewhere in the territory. Every treatment is verified with independent post-treatment lab testing, and we guarantee indoor mold levels will be lower than outdoor levels or we retreat at no additional cost.
